Who is Jan Hanus?

Born in Prague in 1949, John Hanus was destined to become a photographer. Growing up with a photographer father and older brother, John was able to glean the knowledge and experience that would enable his growth as a successful photographer in his own right.

After graduating from secondary school, John actively assisted his father and brother with their photographic assignments for companies like Investa, Strojexport and Rapid. After having to put his ambitions on hold in order to fulfill two years of mandatory military service, John started his career with Czech Television, where he spent twenty years as a maintenance engineer.

In 1989 John traveled to Canada to work for his brother Josef’s calendar and travel book production company. While abroad, John traveled throughout all of Canada, photographing nature and wildlife and helping sell the books and gain new clients. Returning home in 1991, he established his own advertising company, Argo, Ltd. which led to his participation in the development of the first digital photo studio in Prague in 1997. While working in the digital studio, John became very familiar with Phase One and Hensel technology and began working primarily in this medium.

In 2000, John and his son, John Hanus, Jr. established H Design International, Ltd., a photo and DTP studio specializing in the production of advertising materials. H Design is unique in that it handles each project from its inception to the final realization. A tremendous advantage of the Hanus’ work at H Design is that they take pictures for 99% of all design work and are therefore able to control the entire process from sketching to taking
